30 July to 2 August
The Spring/Summer 2010 is becoming a truly exciting time for the City of Lichfield Concert Band as we are preparing to go on tour to Paris in late July early August.
It has been many years since the band last went on tour - nearly 20 years in fact - when the band went to Scharnitz in Austria under the leadership of the then conductor, Richard Murphy. In 1992 the band toured again to Germany when they stayed in Lutz, not far from Lichfield's twin city of Limburg. On both occasions everyone had a fantastic time and we are hoping that Paris, this year will be just as good if not even better with our present musical director Mark Vause.
In the early hours of Friday 30th July an eager group of 25+ players will be setting off from Lichfield Bus Station to travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais. While in Paris two concerts are planned at prime venues.
The first, on Saturday 31st July, is going to be at Champ de Mars directly beneath the imposing site of the Eiffel Tower in central Paris. The concert on Sunday afternoon is planned for the Jardin du Luxembourg which, weather permitting, will be a lovely setting, in probably the most popular park in Paris and less than a mile from Notre Dame Cathedral.
With these concerts in mind we will soon be rehearsing an outdoor programme of music which will include such pieces as "Disney at The Movies", "Star Wars", "Moorside March", "Barnard Castle" and many more. In addition to some serious playing the band also aims to have fun visiting prime visitor attractions along with maybe a few bars and bistros of Central Paris!!
